Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sumeet Goel
Justice Born on 23rd November, 1972 to Smt. Usha Goel, Sangeet Prabhakar (B.A.) in Instrumental Music and Shri. C.R. Goel (who served as a District and Sessions Judge), Justice Sumeet Goel received his school education in various cities in the State of Haryana following his father’s postings as a Judicial Officer. He, thereafter, completed Class 12th from Delhi Public School, RK Puram (New Delhi) and B.A. (Hons.) in Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. While reading Law at the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi; His Lordship wrote several monographs on subjects of Law including Text and Cases: Constitutional Law (published in 1995).
He enrolled as an Advocate at the Bar in 1996 and was subsequently designated as a Senior Advocate. He appeared extensively in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana in Criminal, Constitutional, Civil and Arbitration cases on behalf of private litigants as well as Corporate entities. His Lordship remained as the Retainer Counsel-cum-Special Public Prosecutor for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at the High Court of Punjab and Haryana from 2011 to 2022. His Lordship served as Standing Counsel for the Employee’s Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) as well as Standing Counsel for Food Corporation of India (FCI). He served as the Panel Counsel, amongst others, for UT Administration, Chandigarh; Nationalised Insurance Companies, Kurukshetra University, Guru Jambheshwar University (Hisar), Central University of Haryana, Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board, Haryana Urban Development Authority. He also worked as a Special Engagement Counsel for Union of India in addition to being a Panel Advocate in the office of Advocate General, Haryana. His Lordship appeared extensively as Counsel for the High Court of Punjab and Haryana and also remained empanelled as an Arbitrator by the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
He was a member of the Scrutinizing and Evaluation Committee of Haryana State Legal Services Authority for many years and actively represented Haryana State Legal Services Authority as a Counsel as well, on Pro Bono basis, for more than twenty years.
Justice Sumeet Goel was elevated to the Bench as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana on November 6th, 2023 and as a Judge thereof on April 1st, 2025.
